FAQ & Reference Guide.

Everything you need to know about using PortWorth — from recording trades to running simulations.

General

General questions.

What is PortWorth?

PortWorth is a private wealth dashboard that consolidates your entire financial picture — ASX and US equities, Raiz micro-investing, crypto, superannuation, property, cash, physical assets, loans, and budget — in one place. It provides real-time price data, AI-powered analysis, and advanced simulation tools. It is not a financial adviser and does not provide financial advice.

Is my data secure?

Yes. All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and stored with per-user key isolation. Authentication uses HMAC-SHA256 JWT tokens with optional TOTP two-factor authentication. Your adviser cannot see your portfolio holdings or balances.

What themes are available?

Two themes: Dark (default — deep obsidian) and Parchment (warm light beige). Switch from the header; your preference is saved per device.

Portfolio & holdings

Portfolio & holdings.

Where do prices come from? Are they live?

ASX prices from Yahoo Finance (15-minute delayed). US/Wall Street prices from Twelve Data. Crypto from CoinGecko. FX rates (AUD/USD) from Twelve Data. Prices are cached for 5 minutes. Property valuations are AI-generated from web search data (Domain, REA).

How do I record a trade?

On any holdings tab, click Record Trade. Enter the date, ticker, units, price per unit, and brokerage fee (defaults to $9.50). The brokerage is factored into your cost basis — so your P&L and CGT calculations include fees.

How is P&L calculated?

Unrealised P&L = (Current Price × Units) − (Purchase Price × Units + Brokerage). For Stake/US holdings, P&L is calculated in USD then converted to AUD at the current FX rate.

What is net wealth and what's included?

Net Wealth = Total Assets − Total Debt. Assets include CommSec, Stake (in AUD), Raiz, crypto, cash, super, physical assets, and property. Debt includes all mortgages and loans (HECS, car loans, credit cards, personal loans). You can exclude categories using the toggle buttons on the Wealth Summary panel.

How does the CGT tool work?

Uses FIFO (First In, First Out) matching. Buy brokerage increases cost base; sell brokerage reduces proceeds. The tool applies the 50% CGT discount for holdings over 12 months. Tax estimates assume a 47% marginal rate. Always consult a registered tax agent.

Budget & finance

Budget & finance.

What is the Spending Pace indicator?

Spending Pace compares how much of your monthly budget you've spent vs. how far through the month you are. Under budget (green): pace ≤ 0.9. On track (gold): 0.9–1.1. Overspending (red): > 1.1.

What is the Savings Target?

Set a savings target per week, fortnight, or month. The dashboard tracks your actual savings (income minus expenses) against your target, pro-rated for how far through the month you are.

How do recurring entries work?

Recurring entries generate budget transactions automatically based on frequency (weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly, annually). They appear from their start date forward. Use the projection toggle to see ahead: +1 Week, Month End, Quarter End, or a custom date.

Can I link recurring entries to investments or goals?

Yes. Toggle Links to Investment to split one payment across Raiz jars, CommSec or Stake stocks with percentage allocations totalling 100%. You can also link a recurring entry to a savings goal so its progress updates automatically.

Simulations & stress tests

Simulations & stress tests.

What is the Monte Carlo simulation?

Runs thousands of randomised simulations of your portfolio's future growth, each drawn from a normal distribution with your chosen expected return and volatility. The fan chart shows confidence bands — 5th percentile (worst case) to 95th (best case).

What is Historical Replay?

Applies the actual monthly returns from past market events — GFC 2008, COVID 2020, Dot-Com 2000, Rate Shock 2022, or the 2009 Recovery — to your current portfolio. Shows max drawdown, trough value, and recovery path.

What is the FIRE Calculator?

FIRE = Financial Independence, Retire Early. Your FIRE number = Annual Expenses ÷ Withdrawal Rate (default 4%). The calculator projects how many years until you reach it given your net worth, savings, and expected returns. A planning benchmark, not financial advice.

What does the Stress Test do?

Applies uniform percentage shocks to your portfolio. Adjust sliders for equities, property, crypto, interest rates and AUD/USD, and see the impact on net wealth, LVR and mortgage repayments. Includes historical presets (Bear Market, GFC, COVID) and positive scenarios.

Property

Property questions.

How are property valuations calculated?

AI searches Domain, REA and other sources for recent comparable sales matching your property's suburb, bedroom count and type, then calculates a valuation range. These are AI-sourced estimates, not formal valuations by a licensed valuer — always verify independently.

What is LVR?

Loan-to-Value Ratio = (Loan Balance ÷ Property Value) × 100%. Most lenders require Lenders Mortgage Insurance (LMI) above 80% LVR. The stress test shows your LVR under different property value scenarios.

Security & privacy

Security & privacy.

Can my adviser see my portfolio?

No. The admin Operations Centre only shows client contact information, system health, and communication settings. It does not display holdings, balances, portfolio values, or any financial data. Your data is yours.

Is two-factor authentication available?

Yes. TOTP-based 2FA is available via any authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password). When enabled, you enter a 6-digit code after your password. Strongly recommended for all accounts.
