General information only. Not financial advice. PortWorth's AI Research provides general information and education. We do not hold an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL). The AI cannot tell you to buy or sell any security. Before making any investment decision, consult a licensed financial adviser.

What the Research tab does

The Research tab gives you a conversational AI assistant that can answer questions about markets, investments, and financial concepts, with awareness of your portfolio context. It uses web search to access current market data, so answers reflect conditions at the time you ask.

Think of it as a knowledgeable research companion: useful for understanding concepts, exploring ideas, and getting market context, not a substitute for licensed financial advice.

Step 1: Open the Research tab

  1. Click Research in the dashboard navigation (left sidebar on desktop, bottom nav on mobile).
  2. If you are on the Essential, Professional, or Private Office plan, the chat interface loads immediately.
  3. If you are on the Free plan, you will see an upgrade prompt. The Research tab requires an Essential plan or above.

Step 2: Ask a question

Type your question naturally into the chat input and press Enter or tap Send. You do not need special commands or syntax. The AI understands plain English.

Six example questions to get you started:

  • "What are the main risks in holding 40% of my portfolio in Australian banks?"
  • "Explain franking credits and how they affect my effective dividend yield"
  • "What is the historical average P/E ratio for the ASX 200?"
  • "What happened to Afterpay shareholders when Square acquired the company?"
  • "What is the difference between an ETF and a managed fund?"
  • "What are the tax implications of selling shares that have been held for less than 12 months?"
Tip: be specific. The AI uses web search for current market data. Specific questions produce better answers than vague ones. "What is the current RBA cash rate?" gets a more useful response than "What's happening with rates?"

Step 3: Read the response

The AI will respond with general information, education, and market context. As you read:

  • What the AI can do: explain financial concepts, summarise market events, outline general tax rules, analyse sector trends, and give context on how ASX-listed companies have performed historically.
  • What the AI cannot do: tell you to buy or sell a specific security, give personal financial advice based on your individual circumstances, predict future prices, or access your linked bank accounts.

The AI can see your portfolio summary (your holdings, allocations, and overall performance) so it can give contextually relevant answers when you ask questions that reference your portfolio. It does not have access to your banking credentials or the ability to execute any transactions.

If the AI's response reaches the boundary of general information and personal advice, it will say so and suggest you consult a licensed adviser.

Step 4: Pin an insight

  1. Find a response you want to keep.
  2. Click the pin icon in the top-right corner of that response bubble.
  3. The insight is saved to your Pinned Insights panel, visible in the right column of the Research tab.
  4. Pinned insights persist across sessions and remain available when you come back to the Research tab later.
  5. To remove a pin, click the pin icon again on the saved insight.

Pinned insights are useful for saving explanations you want to share with your accountant or adviser, or for keeping a reference of market context you found useful.

Step 5: Start a new session

  1. Click New Session at the top of the Research tab.
  2. The current conversation is cleared and context is reset.
  3. Start your next question in a clean conversation.

Starting a new session is particularly useful when switching between unrelated topics. The AI's context window carries your earlier messages, so a clean session produces more focused, accurate answers on a new subject.

Previous sessions are not saved as browseable history. Only pinned insights carry forward. If you want to retain a response, pin it before starting a new session.
